When we opened our first café in 1997, our focus was simple: create a neighborhood gathering place rooted in hospitality, community, and quality. Coffee was always at the center of that experience. Over the years, we proudly served many respected local roasters throughout the Bay Area, carefully selecting partners whose coffees reflected the spirit and craftsmanship of San Francisco.
As our cafés grew, so did our understanding of coffee. We spent decades learning directly from our customers, baristas, farmers, importers, and roasting partners. We learned what our communities gravitated toward in the morning rush, what travelers reached for before a flight, and what flavors created moments people remembered long after they left our cafés. Eventually, we realized that roasting our own coffee was the natural next step in our journey.
In 2019, more than twenty years after opening our first café, we launched our own small-batch roasting program. Roasting in-house allowed us to control every aspect of the coffee experience—from sourcing and roasting to serving. Today, we're proud to share our coffee with our communities and beyond, continuing the tradition of quality and care that started in 1997.
Today, our roasting program reflects nearly three decades of experience serving coffee in San Francisco neighborhoods and high-volume hospitality environments alike. Every roast is guided by the same philosophy that shaped our first café in 1997: serve people well, create spaces that bring communities together, and never stop improving the quality of what we offer.
